Allensworth - California State Historic Park

Founded in 1908, Allensworth represents the only township in California founded, financed, governed and populated by African Americans. Located in the Great Central Valley (Southern San Joaquin Valley), it was founded to be an agricultural community and center of learning where former slaves could build a new and independent future for themselves in the West.
