/sh/ phonics Lesson
Objective:
Students will learn to recognize, pronounce, and read words with the /sh/ digraph through phonemic awareness activities, blending, segmenting, and interactive exercises.
This lesson includes a slide deck to follow along for teaching the /sh/ sound and also there is a weekly lesson plan attached for teaching the /sh/ sound.
Lesson Activities:
- Introduction to /sh/
- Show and say words with /sh/ (e.g., ship, shell, shark).
- Watch a /sh/ sound video.
- Use gestures or visual aids to reinforce the sound.
- Phonemic Awareness Activities
- Blending: Teacher says sh-i-p, students blend it into ship.
- Segmenting: Teacher says fish, students break it into /sh/ - i - sh/.
- Word Reading & Practice
- Read words with /sh/ together (e.g., shop, shut, wish, dish).
- Students practice building words on whiteboards or paper.
- Interactive Activities
- Circle Map: Sort pictures/words that have the /sh/ sound.
- Sentence Reading: Read a short passage and highlight /sh/ words.
- Movement Game: Act out or find real objects with /sh/ sounds.
- Closure & Review
- Students review words and sentences with /sh/.
- Teacher assesses understanding through blending/segmenting games.
