S- Blends
Lesson Focus:
Students will learn about S-Blends (e.g., st, sm, sp, sn, sl, sc) through phonemic awareness activities, blending, segmenting, and word-building exercises.
** It will give you a Weekly Lesson Plan to follow
Lesson Components:
- Introduction to Blends
- Explain that blends are two or three consonants together where each letter retains its sound.
- Introduce S-Blends with examples like "slug," "sky," and "stop."
- Blending & Segmenting Practice
- Use slides and videos for students to hear, segment, and blend S-Blends.
- Example words: sled, smack, spot, smog, sped.
- By the third day, students should recognize and say the blend naturally.
- Phonemic Awareness Activities
- Blending: Teacher gives sounds (e.g., /s/ /t/ /o/ /p/), and students blend them into a word.
- Segmenting: Teacher says a word (e.g., "slug"), and students break it into individual sounds.
- Word-Building with S-Blends
- Students use whiteboards or paper to write S-Blend words by segmenting and spelling them.
- Interactive Activities
- Circle Map: Identify and categorize words with S-Blends.
- Reading Passage: Read a short story with S-Blends and find words containing the blends.
- Worksheets & Digital Activities: Reinforce learning through practice sheets.
