Visit a Kentucky Dairy Farm | Kentucky Farms Feed Me

Kentucky kid Kylie visits Chaney's Dairy Barn in Bowling Green to learn how the cows are milked using a robotic milker, how the milk is processed, and then made into ice cream.

Main Ideas:

  • Kentucky dairy cattle are managed to produce healthy milk that humans drink. Milk can also be processed into other dairy foods like cheese, yogurt, butter, and ice cream.
  • The energy in milk can be traced back to energy from the sun. Farmers ensure their dairy cows have the energy and nutrients they need from plants to produce milk. The plants use energy from the sun to grow and provide food energy (photosynthesis).
  • Many people are involved in the sun>plant>cow>milk>human process to ensure the milk is healthy and safe.
  • Farmers use technology to make their jobs easier, make cows more comfortable, and ensure milk is safer to drink.
