This collection contains art from the greater Civil Rights Movement from the 1950's-1970's. It also contains art from subsequent time periods that are connected in theme, topic, or concept to the greater Civil Rights Movement. In this instance, the greater Civil Rights Movement refers to the movement to end segregation and to enforce and expand rights for African Americans (the Civil Rights Movement proper), the Chicano Rights Movement, the Chicano Labor Movement, the Feminist or Women's Liberation Movement, the start of the Gay Rights Movement, and the American Indian Movement.
