Face Jugs: Identity and Ceramics

For generations, Southern American potters have created face jugs. These pots and mugs "look back" with their ceramic facial features. African artisans who were enslaved in Georgia, South Carolina, and other Southern states incorporated their homeland's aesthetics, rituals, and artforms into a unique American pottery tradition.
