Medical Tools During the Civil War

The Civil War was between the Union and the Confederates from 1861 to 1865. The Confederates were fighting to preserve slavery while the Union wanted to end it for good. It was an important time period for Americans because it changed a lot of American's society from materials to culture.

The Civil War was one of the bloodiest and most expensive wars on American soil fighting about 10.000 battles. The war freed 3 million slaves, but it also killed 620,000 or more people. The items reflect tools and equipment used to help save people from all sorts of injuries and sicknesses. Medical Practitioners used surgical procedures such as amputations, bloodletting, ligations, plastic operations, and the removal of foreign objects. These medical tools were used from all over the world such as Europe and North America.
